Ancient Romans also adopted many Greek gods as their own, but they gave them Roman names. For example, the Greek god Zeus, god of all gods and goddesses, was transformed into Jupiter. The Greek god Aphrodite, goddess of love, became Venus. Also, the Greek god Ares, god of war, became Mars. Early Roman religious practices and values differ from the early Greek religion because they had different gods and rituals. Additionally, the Greeks were much more interested in telling stories about the gods than the Romans were. Instead, the Romans were more concerned with performing exactly the right ritual for a particular occasion than the Greeks were.
