Language is one of the biggest contributions from Ancient Rome. Latin, a Roman language, is still used today. In fact, we use the Latin alphabet (even though Latin had 23 letters and English uses 26). Many of our English words come from Latin. Some Latin proverbs are still in use. Several languages today like Italian, Spanish, and French have evolved and developed from Latin. Some of our months come from Latin words. September comes from the Latin words meaning “the seventh month.” October means “the eighth month.” in Latin. A lot of English words start with Latinprefixes, which is a set of letters at the beginning of a word that carries its own meaning. Not only is Latin still used, but so are the Roman numerals. Instead of writing actual numbers, the Romans used a system of letters. Roman numerals today are used on clocks, sundials, and the first pages of books. Some Roman numerals are also on buildings and in some movie credits to show the year in which the movie was made. The Roman achievements in Language have greatly affected our lives today.
